For His Praise and Glory

My cousin had just moved to Collier Row, and started taking her children to Starlight Toddlers, which is a group that the church run for young children. She invited my mum, who then began to take my little sister. My mum fell in love with the church and started going religiously on a Sunday. I started to go with her in the later months, and I felt a little bit out of sorts. I was nervous, and never felt I belonged there. I carried on going, and gradually I felt a little bit more relaxed. I felt that doing this really helped with my confidence in situations where there were many people. present.

In 2014, my mum got baptised, and in 2015 my little sister got christened. In 2017, there was going to be a baptism service for a few young girls. Marcus, who is one of the team members at the church, asked me if I wanted to be baptised, and at first, I was like, no, that’s not for me, I don’t want to do that. It was getting closer and closer to the baptism, where these young girls were going to do something rather big in their lives, and I was out for a meal with my grandparents when sitting there I decided I was going to be baptised. I do not know why I suddenly changed my mind. I do not know what the influence was. I just knew I wanted to do it, and boy was I nervous.

People have many preconceptions of religion and the church. I feel that sharing my journey into faith and showing how open, vulnerable and raw you are able to feel whilst being within the faith can help change these perceptions, not just with faith but life in general. I felt this overwhelming feeling to capture the moment when someone begins to pray or worship our Lord. The moment when one take time to talk to our Father and give thanks. Where they ask him to hear their words of plea, support, and forgiveness. Capturing the moment when they open their heart, and are at their most vulnerable. They are praising the Lord, his love and glory.
