About the Photography Department

Relevant, contemporary, practical, challenging, and directly related in industry, the FdA and BA (Hons) Photography L6 Direct Entry programmes prepare students for a career in contemporary photography. Taught in specialised industry standard facilities by photography professionals.

The programmes are offered in partnership with the University of East London (UEL). 80% of our graduates become freelancers and operate industries including fashion and editorial, documentary and fine-art photography.

Students are encouraged to develop individual lines of enquiry within their work and to engage in critical themes surrounding the global development of contemporary photography. The teaching is supported by a framework of professional engagement that is delivered by a range of visiting guest practitioners including Simon Roberts, Tim Gutt, Olu Odukoya, Nigel Shafran, Tung Walsh, Eileen Perrier, and Jonathan Hallam.

Unique to the department is our Rouchon Paris/Barking & Dagenham Scholarship which provides annual funded internships to live and work in Paris at the famous Rouchon studios.
